Eminence ASD1001 – 1″ Compression Tweeter

This is our rebranded Eminence ASD1001 1" Compression horn driver. The beauty of this driver is its sweetness, not harsh or shrill, and with good treble extension with lots of air. This driver mates well with the coaxial HA15.1 bass/midbass woofer. With a simple crossover, the two pair well at very sensitive levels that make for an open baffle combination almost any amplifier can drive to normal home listening levels.

We have compared this driver to MANY other 1" compression horn drivers, and with a few modifications it has yet to be rivaled. Yet we are hopeful we will find another driver that can beat this one. If you know of a 1" compression horn drivers that sounds EXCELLENT at any price and can beat this driver(after our modifications) PLEASE let us know. We are still in disbelief that some very highly regarded compression horn drivers in the 1" size from JBL and other highly regarded manufacturers didn't best this driver for smoothness and sweetness in response, still being crystal clear in frequencies over 4k hz.

Specification and Features:
8 ohms nominal impedance.
104dbs w/m sensitivity.
12oz. Ceramic magnet.
Titanium diaphragm with aluminum former.
Power handling 50w RMS

The above frequency response was taken by Eminence LLC in an anechoic chamber at one meter, in the Eminence H290B horn. The HA15.1 drivers pole piece loads it differently such that the treble peak is lower around 15k Hz, the dip before it is nowhere nearly as pronounced, and the lower peak is around 2k hz. Our suggested capacitor is 3.3uF which at the 8 ohm impedance levels out the 2k Hz dip.

Below you see the differences loading and a crossover makes in the driver's response, the top(bright green line) is without the throat extension or open back and a large value cap simply for protection, and the grey bottom response is with the throat extension piece, open back, and crossover combined. Since this is DIY we encourage tinkering to get the sound you want. Personally, I like a treble peak as it doesn't sound harsh and gives a lot of air making for an amazing and large soundstage.

LDA T1.5 Available soon.

Above is the ASD1001 Eminence driver modified with a throat extension and the opened back to reveal the back of the diaphragm for rear radiation and changing the driver's specifications. The compliance of the driver has changed as a result.

Proposed pricing on a pair of modified ASD1001 drivers is $249.00

Caution the change to this driver no longer meet manufacturer specifications. We recommend caution when driving this tweeter over thirty watts of power, as more could easily burn out the tweeter.

The larger the capacitor used as a crossover, or the lower the crossover point reduces its wattage handling ability. So any larger in microfarad value than a 3.3uF capacitor on this driver can lead to overdriving it on higher power amplifiers. If you intend to run a higher power amplifier with this driver we suggest using the original without modifications. NEVER operate this tweeter on any amplifier at any time for any reason without a capacitor for protection.

Also sound pressure levels in excess of 90dbs can be hazardous to your hearing. The louder the levels the greater the risk of hearing damage. These tweeters should be fine with levels below 90dbs in a typical home environment. If for any reason you damage this tweeter we can attempt to repair it for you, simply send it to us describing the issue.
